Horses in Training
Training Horses at MD Horses is a family affair

This page is mainly for my owners to keep track of how their horses are progressing in their training.    I will try to update this on a weekly basis.   As you will soon notice there are a lot of photos with Mike riding the young ones.  That is due to Mike likes to ride the young ones and get them started.

Ali and Sammy went home with 2 happy owners.   Ali's owner brought us 2 more horses to work on and so we will begin again.   We now have Bo a palomino,  who is a 5 yr old Shiners Ace bred gelding(if I remember right) and Tabitha a bay, who is a 3 yr old QH mare goes back to Rugged Lark (if I remember right).

Tabitha went home but due to issues with Beau he is staying for a little longer for more training and confidence building.

Beau came to us for 30 days of training.  He had some issues he has been working through and so the owner has asked we put another 15 days on him.   We are working on just getting him out of the round pen and riding down the road.  We have been taking him slow as he seems to be quick to upset.

We have worked on him loading in the trailer in both the 2 and 4 horse.   He walks right into the 4 horse but in the 2 horse he was a little more hesitant.  After some reassurance and a little grain coaxing he went right in.  We unloaded him and reloaded him quite a few times and he goes in like a pro.

Attaching a few photos of Beau being ridden out on his own down the road and also of him loading in the trailer.

We have a new arrival at MD Horses
Siete Sunfrost RW or better known as Seven came to us from Illinois .  She is here for some refreshing riding and will go into barrel training and will stay here till she is sold.   If you are looking for a new barrel prospect, I have a feeling she could be a nice one.  She is actually pretty easy to ride and does have a few issues due to being spoiled but nothing major.   She arrived on Saturday May 30th and already we worked her in the round pen and saddled her and took her for a nice ride down the road.  She just needs some fine tuning and then put onto the pattern.

Here is Mitchell and Seven in the round pen and then him riding her and asking for a nice rounded back up.  She isn't real tall and is a 4 yr old.   I will add her to my for sale page once I get more rides in on her.

I took Seven out this evening and did some work on her.   I worked her in the round pen for a while and then got on and did some bending and flexing work on her.   I was told that she has a rusty back up and so I worked on that for a while with her and I felt she moved pretty freely when I got just got a step and release the pressure movement on her.  I had her backing around 5 steps freely and so went on to just loping circles and worked on some rollbacks along the fence.  She is actually a pretty nice little riding mare.  I was told she was patterned on the barrels last year and then pretty much ridden here and there by novice riders and so I am getting the bending, stopping, moving off leg pressure and all that fun stuff on her and will take her back to the pattern after she is consistent in doing all that fun stuff.   I'll keep ya posted.  I didn't get any photos of me with Seven. (I don't do photos well) :-)    I am better at taking them then being in them LOL

Here Mike and Seven heading back down the road for another run by the driveway.

We been road riding Seven and found one of her flaws is that she does not like going away from the place and on her own.  She will throw a little hissy fit and does this backing thing.   So we worked on getting her down the road and back and down the road and back.  She is doing good now and is leaving the place without to much of a fuss.  Still work to do but is so much better then it was in the beginning.  I had Michael take her up and down the road while we worked on the two outside training horses.

Started (beginning again) in Training is Whisper and Penny

Now that we got the outside horses started riding and going and now just need to put on the miles we have started working on Penny and Whisper again.  Whisper needs to get gelded soon but he did great today.  He is starting to get that stud neck and I need to get the vet out ASAP and get the deed done.   He did great today, was a little ball of fire at first as he hasn't been messed with much lately but by the end he was lunging and working like he should be.   Penny has such a bad habit of backing up. When she gets upset about anything she goes backwards.  So we worked today on her forward movement.  I won't do many updates on these two but will keep checking in with their progress from time to time.

Whisper and the dreaded plastic bag. :-)

By the end of Penny's session we had Matthew on her.  She had Marshall on her a few times this early spring but hasn't been messed with much due to a lot of work and time problems.  Both are coming along good and I can't wait to get Whisper going!

Mike has been riding Penny and she is doing wonderful!   She is going to be a nice little mare.

Penny and Mike in the roundpen.
